The BPW buys electricity generated by third parties via an interconnection with Delmarva Power. This electricity is then distributed through BPW-owned, operated, and maintained electrical infrastructure. The BPW is a member of Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, DEMEC, who is a Joint Action Agency providing its members with the benefits of combined purchasing power. The BPW has established a partnership with the University of Delaware’s College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment through an Interconnection Agreement in 2010. This agreement involves integrating a wind turbine directly into the BPW distribution system. This collaboration benefits BPW ratepayers by providing additional energy generation for the residents of Lewes.
