Are you looking for a safe way to dispose of household hazardous waste? Mark your calendars for April 26, 2025, and bring your unwanted hazardous materials to our Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event!

We’ll be hosting this event from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Old Power Plant, located at 227 Schley Avenue. This is your chance to safely dispose of items that could be harmful to your family, pets, and the environment if not properly handled.

What is Household Hazardous Waste?

Household hazardous waste (HHW) includes everyday items like cleaning products, paints, pesticides, batteries, and electronics that contain harmful chemicals. These materials should never be thrown in the trash or poured down the drain, as they can lead to contamination of our water, soil, and air.

What Can You Bring?

We accept a wide range of hazardous materials for proper disposal:

  • Cleaning products: Bleach, ammonia, oven cleaners, etc.
  • Pesticides: Insecticides, herbicides, and fertilizers.
  • Paints and solvents: Oil-based paints, paint thinners, and strippers.
  • Batteries: Car batteries, rechargeable batteries, and household batteries.
  • Electronics: Old computers, televisions, microwave ovens, vacuum cleaners, cell phones and more.
  • Fluorescent light bulbs: Contain mercury and require safe disposal.

Please note: We cannot accept household trash, tires, or large appliances at this event and the Lewes BPW reserves the right to decline the acceptance of any materials not on the DSWA list or that is not labelled.

Drug Take-Back Opportunity with Lewes PD

In addition to the household hazardous waste collection, the Lewes Police Department will be available at the event to offer a Drug Take-Back service. If you have unused, unwanted, or expired prescription medications, now is the perfect time to dispose of them safely. Proper disposal of medications is essential to prevent accidental poisoning, misuse, and contamination of our water supply. More information can be found at https://www.dea.gov/takebackday.
